In the Light of all light excelling,
Light that darkens mortal eye,
Thou, Supreme, hast fixed thy dwelling
Everlasting Trinity.

Angels veil their radiant faces;
Saints are trembling in thy sight,
We the while, in earth's dark places,
watch the slowly waning night.

Watch till night is turned to morning,
Morning of th'eternal day;
Suns our earthly heav'n adorning
Fade like star light from its ray.

Grant that here thy gift receiving
We may there thy glory see,
Gazing then, no more believing
Trinity in unity.
